Bruce J. Tobin for Commissioner Parks and Playgrounds 2006

Occupation: Public Safety
Community Service: Chairman, Braintree Park Commission; President, Friends of the Hollis Field Playground Committee; Executive Board Member Granite Park Association; Former Coach Saint Francis of Assisi Basketball; Braintree Youth Basketball, Soccer and Baseball
Question: What do you perceive to be the major issue of the office for which you are running and how do you propose to address the issue?
Maintaining the high level of service the Park Department performs within the constraints of tight fiscal budgets is the major issue the Park Department is tasked to accomplish. The Parks Department is responsible for maintaining over 390 Acres of Parks, School grounds and Athletic Facilities as well as operating Summer Programs for the residents of Braintree. The Cost of maintaining these properties and operating the various programs increases yearly but the funding does not. As one of the committed Park Commissioner's, I will continue to seek ways to obtain funding to maintain the high level of service that the residents of Braintree deserve.

Question: What do you perceive to be the major issue of the office for which you are running and how do you propose to address the issue?
The Petersen Pool Committee has worked diligently over the past two years to secure a site for the Petersen Pool. The pool may not be the major issue for those currently on the Board of Parks and Playgrounds, but I am seeking a seat on the Parks Board to resolve this long-standing issue. As a member of that Board, I would work to encourage the other members to approve one of the many sites discussed and/or proposed by the Pool Committees. If no site is designated by the Parks Board, the town should abandon the pool effort, and return the Petersen trust monies to Captain Petersen's heirs.

As a ratepayer looking in from the outside I see a lack of focus in regard to the core mission of B.E.L.D. -- that being low rates. This is an asset from which we can get more. I respect and admire all the hardworking men and women at B.E.L.D. With your help I will use all of my talents and energy to accomplish our core mission. I have been honored to serve this community on a number of fronts. With your vote I will bring that commitment to the next level.
